Alas, this surface hatch blew off at speed on Saturday. Need to replace it. Assuming/hoping its a standard size.
This covers an opening in the forward anchor cabin. Sdd is fitted with a windlass, which is a motorized system to drop and retrieve the anchor. My old boat didn’t have one. All manual. -

Sail Don’t Drift
I have a 2009 Sea Ray 280 Sundeck. I had owned a 2004 220 Sundeck that I bought from a friend. That was the first boat I’d ever owned. But it was destroyed in Superstorm Sandy. So with the insurance settlement from that and some extra money added in I got this new boat.
The old one and the new one are both named ‘Sail Don’t Drift.’ Some people find that confusing since its a power boat rather than a sailboat. But it’s a personal motto. So that’s what that’s from.
This was my second weekend with the boat. Unfortunately it was overcast and rainy almost the whole time. For now I’m trying to learn about the new boat, particularly the features and parts this boat has that my old one did not. I didn’t grow up with boats. So I’m very focused on learning the ins and outs of boating in depth, both for safety (I have two young sons) but also as a discipline or avocation.
